    • I also, was planning on at some point doing a PC in a power Mac G3, but a guy would have to mod it all to heck, and I also noticed that it's very hard to get a flat panel monitor that would fit in there perfectly...

  • There's loads of basic information that this video gets completely wrong. My dad had a 1998 PC. It only came with two USB ports. Two USBs on the iMac wasn't particularly crippling. You could easily use a USB hub if you needed more USB devices. The fastest G3 iMacs ran at 600Mhz and even 700Mhz. 400Mhz was only a mid-level machine. It doesn't use a SCSI hard drive - all G3 iMacs used an IDE hard drive, with a special connector on the logic board that allowed also passed power to the optical drive. The reason Apple switched to X86 from PowerPC was for two very good reasons. PowerPC was built by Motorola and IBM, on behalf of Apple. It was a development of IBM's POWER cpu architecture, but included backward compatibility with the Motorola 680000 series CPUs that Apple had used in the Mac from day one. But the time of the G4 and G5, Motorola were unable to develop a laptop version of the G5, as they were very hot processors. Motorola were also getting out of the CPU business at the time, and production had switched to factories owned by IBM. Meanwhile, IBM manufactured PowerPC CPUs for the Nintendo GameCube, and were ramping up production for the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii, both of which also used variants of the PowerPC (the Sony PS3 also used a unique type of PowerPC manufactured by Toshiba), and Apple were looking at supply issues, as they would be taking a lot fewer CPUs than Nintendo and Motorola.

  • Use the built in display. Most of the time you can output 1080p or even higher to a suitable CRT. They are analog displays so there really isn’t a resolution so much as a maximum number of lines that can be drawn. Usually you can send a different signal to them and get higher resolutions from the same display

  • Only two USB? That’s a lot back then. CD drives were new then. Your drive is failing. That’s not the last gen, G4 and G5’s were much later, also that’s the lower end iMac G4.. They had support for seven years. Just had to add those corrections.... Also you opened the Classic apps that say OS 9 Applications, you need to click on Applications w out OS 9.

    Christian GrenierChristian Grenierپیش 2 ماه
  • Everything he said is wrong. This model came with 8.6, not 9.2. the G3 isn't the last generation of powerpc, the G5 is. Capacitors are not dangerous unless they are both charged and you touch both their terminals, which you can't do without touching the soldered side. It doesn't use SCSI. And he could've just selected to boot OS9.2 from the startup disk pane.

  • I have no clue why they didn’t just look up some stuff to get the correct info. I heard him say that the 2001 iMac was the last gen of PPC. Bro... I,ve got a late 2005 yes 2005 PowerBook G4 with a PPC CPU. So in the future do a quick google search before making a video. SMH

I used to have one, technically was my first personal computer that I shared with my sister, and seeing one still running today in whatever crazy config someone could come up with would be totally... Golden~ Or in the "case" of yours by color (ours was green, forgot the actual name)... Azure~

  • I still have mine! It was the last of this generation with the blue dalmatian colour. I loved playing Diablo 2 on it and being able to rip music really easily with itunes although I remember being pissed not long after getting it cause two months later Apple came out with the new mac design (at pretty much the same price!) with a swivel screen and the round base which was ground braking for the time.
